Worried about Criminal's Threats
Dear Cassandra,
In our household I am the house-husband and I stay at home and look after our two year old twin daughters. My wife is a lawyer who is usually extremely calm and composed. She is a defence lawyer and frequently represents what I could best descibe as 'fringe' members of society. Recently she lost a case and her client, who recieved a hefty prison sentence was extremely unhappy with her.
As a result she is now nervous that this criminal might have some of his cronies take it out on her.
Even without resorting to specific threats he managed to shake her up quite badly and she is now nervous about taking on new cases. I feel that this is having an adverse effect on her career. I think she is worrying unneccesarily but I would be grateful if you would look at the cards and tell me if we really do have anything to worry about.

Dear Enda,
As you know defence lawyers loose cases all the time and their clients often recieve lenghty prison sentences as a result. In our society the criminal justice system works fairly well and only very rarely do people go to prison for crimes they did not commit. I am sure that any serious criminal, who really did deserve jail, would appreciate that his or her guilt was a fairly major contributory factor in a jury's decision to convict. Further more if anything bad were to befall a defence lawyer it wouldn't bode well for that criminal's chances should he or she ever require a defence lawyer in the future. Having looked at the cards I can tell you that the client in this instance is an emotional, uneducted individual who likes to intimidate women in particular. His threatening manner is really only a mixutre of anger and bluster so tell your wife she should forget about this incident and get on with her career, which, incidentally looks very bright
